MY GUIDE TO PHILLY

Recently I was asked to create a Summer Style and Hot Spot guide to Philly for Glam Media’s latest app. I’ve been in Philly now for just 1 year and 8 months (crazy right? feels like it has been so much longer!), which hardly makes me an expert on the city – but I have found a handful of gems (shops! restaurants! bars!) that I really love and frequent often (and take all of my visitors to) and it was fun to create this guide to share them with all of you. See below for my shoppable guide – and download the free iphone and ipad app here to see Style Guides for cities all across the U.S. by fashionable blogging gals.

DREAMCATCHER

DREAMCATCHER 2DREAMCATCHER 7DREAMCATHER 15

As I always say – I love a good dreamcatcher. Always have . You have to keep the bad spirits out of your dreams at night and bring in a little *magic* to your space. I recently put up this dreamy lacy one with an amethyst, my birthstone, over my bed to bring me sweet dreams. I got it at a flea market here in Philly and it’s by Sultana Maria, but the best ones are really Electric Love. My antler head? Also a Philly flea market score – he’s a real Pennsylvania Buck. I’m posting this as I am about to crawl into that bed of mine, and face and conquer another Monday tomorrow….sighhh xo

WHAT I WORE

A SUMMER UNIFORM

SUMMER UNIFORM 04TEVAS 11 TEVAS 01TEVAS 7James Perse tee // DIY Vintage Denim skirt (a great new one here) // Ray Ban Wayfarers // Annabel Ingall Large Tote bag // Teva sandals : Teva Universal in White & Teva Original Thong in Teal/Coral

I had a moment as I was pulling into work yesterday morning: the windows rolled down listening to Lana Del Rey’s new album, I got out of the car and walked into the building in 80 degree weather at 9am in this outfit, and I thought, wow it’s summer. Summertime is here. It’s almost hard for me to believe after that endless winter. And don’t tell the future me in approx one weeks time when I really can’t deal with the humidity, but it feels amazing. There’s something great about experiencing summer on the East Coast where its 85 – 95 degrees everyday for 3 months, from sun rise to sun set, like clockwork. I really haven’t experienced that before, ever. And here we have what will surely be my summer uniform: my favorite easy tee, a throw on denim skirt, and my new favorite sandals – Tevas. For most people Tevas bring them back to the mid 90s – we all had them, I wore them with socks in middle school. And while I am totally not getting on board with the Birkenstock thing (I actually wore them not that long ago in the 2000s in college, and I get that they’re like all fashion right now (chic?) but I.Just.Can’t. do it again- mostly because everyone else apparently can and I have big feet). I was hesitant on the Teva thing too, but then I saw this, and then them here, and then this was really the topper on the cake, and all of a sudden, I wanted them. I think they’re pretty cute (right??!!), and they’re not Birkenstocks :-). So welcome Summer, I’m so ready for you. xx

I was asked recently to put together a little guide to Philly- all of my favorite places to eat, drink & do (which I will be publishing here very soon)- including pictures of me in front of my favorite Philly landmark. I chose the Philadelphia Art Museum- specifically, it’s front steps, which are of course iconic for those scenes in ‘Rocky.’ The Art Museum is my favorite landmark for a couple of reasons –  1) the art inside (so many good impressionists), and 2) the view from the top of the steps (I missed the mark on a picture of that for sure), which is of the whole city looking down Ben Franklin Parkway to City Hall.  You can’t miss a trip here if you ever visit Philly (and you should! Come hang with me!). My outfit is an ode to classic East Coast Prep – which seemed appropriate- with my own twist of course (I don’t think anyone would ever call me ‘preppy’ but I do have an appreciation for the classics). Nautical Stripes in a cool slouchy silhouette and a structured Navy fluted skirt. Classic tortoise shell sunglasses and a red lip finish off the a-little-Americana look.

The sunshine is out and this weekend is looking to be in the 80s! I’m a plannin a day trip to the beach! Gotta get some vitamin D and get my toes in the ocean!

A TRIP TO THE CAPE

It’s a quick 5 1/2 – 6 hour drive up the Eastern seaboard, through 6 states (and practically all 13 colonies to get all historical on you)- starting here in Pennsylvania, up through New Jersey and over the George Washington Bridge to New York, up through the entire coastline of Connecticut, around Providence, Rhode Island into Massachusetts and over to the Cape. Sounds like a crazy commute to all the West coasters who are used to so many less states, but it is actually 50 miles less than the distance from SF to LA in California (a drive me and my friends did many a time up and down the 5 when I lived in CA for all those years). A couple more friends from Boston and Rhode Island joined at our ‘Cape house’ as we like to call it and despite not exactly high-summer weather we had a great time- beach walks (glute burners those sand walks), clamming, late night dance parties, shotskis, backyard hang-out sessions in multi-colored Adirondacks (painted by Luke excellently) and exploring and drinking and eating our way through all the charming Cape towns- Barnstable & Barnstable Harbor, Wellfleet, Provincetown, Sandwich and a little Chatham, Dennis and Hyannis Port (had to check out the Kennedy Compound, and the Taylor Swift house across the street) thrown in too. I consumed exactly 3 lobster rolls and about 18 glasses of white white. What more could you ask for from a holiday weekend? It’s fun to be able to explore a little of the East Coast while I live here – especially such an awesome and lovely place like Cape Cod. Thanks D & L for having me (they’re always so good to me)! Love you, your grand fun company and friendship and your home!

Happy June to you all and hope you enjoyed your holiday weekends as well! xx

I’m wearing a Free People tee, a DIY denim skirt (love this, this & this one) and an Annabel Ingall silver leather tote

There was an inside joke (mostly between me, myself and I) when I first started this blog about how much pink I would wear. I didn’t even realize how much I liked to wear it until I started documenting my outfits (see: this endeavor brings many opportunities for self awareness and reflection). But when I moved out East, I took a little break. It must’ve been the ‘seriousness’ of the east coast, or more likely the non-Californianess of this current state I reside in, who knows really. But along came Spring this year and I found myself craving some serious pink in my life, so here we are.

While taking a little walk around the neighborhood this weekend, I discovered this so-very-lovely (and in bloom) community garden hidden in an alley behind my apartment building. Funny how little treasures of life can just seem to appear before you, making your day- I’ve lived here a year and never noticed it before. Someday, if I decide I need another hobby I might join in to the tending, but for now I just plan on visiting it every couple of days to admire its beauty.

Also: can we talk about how skinny skinny jeans are kind of on the way out?! I’ve been so ready for a switch up – now I find myself reaching for these seriously relaxed skinnies almost on the daily: soooo comfy, and they just feel fresh to wear…
